Inside the easyJet holidays Big Orange Party: A Day in the Life of a Good Travel Agent

One of the questions I get asked most by agents thinking about joining us is what the job actually looks like beyond the bookings. The honest answer is that a lot of it happens at events like this one.

On Monday 7 September I headed to Silverstone for the easyJet holidays Big Orange Party, and it was the biggest one they have ever put on. The invite promised a day in pole position for fun, and believe me when I say - the marketing undersold it.

What the day was about

The Big Orange Party brings together easyJet holidays' travel agent partners, their suppliers and Team Orange for a day of learning, entertainment and celebration. It's their way of saying thank you to the agents who help create their customers' holidays, and it felt like that from the moment we arrived.

What I actually got out of it

27 suppliers in one day. That is the headline for me. Hotels, destinations, resorts and the people behind them, all in one place and all keen to talk. Face to face conversations with the people whose product I sell every week are worth more than any brochure. I came away with new contacts, new ideas for my customers and a much better sense of what is worth recommending this year.

Other agents. Some of the best conversations of the day were with agents from across the industry. Sharing what is working, what isn't and where the demand is heading. You just don't get that sat at your desk.

The hospitality. It was properly done. Great food, plenty of drink options and everything running smoothly all day. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza Silverstone, which was excellent and meant nobody had to worry about the drive home.

Why this matters if you are thinking about joining us

Being an independent agent does not mean being on your own. Supplier events like this are a regular part of being part of the Good Travel Agent network. They are where you build the relationships that make your quotes sharper and your recommendations more confident, plus they're a lot of fun.
